About the Author

The Hon. D. Neletha Butterfield, M.B.E., J.P. is the founder, owner and director of a computer school and an alternative learning centre called C.A.R.E. (Children and Adults Reaching for Education) which was founded in November 1983. A former Senator, Member of Parliament and Government Cabinet Minister of Bermuda, Butterfield has been actively involved in Bermuda’s political process for approximately twenty years. She has received several awards just to mention a few: Bermudian of the Year; Community Service Award, Outstanding Service Award, Best of Bermuda Award, Sojourner Truth Award, Business Leader of the Year; Woman andChautauqua of Great Esteem,. M.B.E. (Member of the British Empire) for her contribution to community education and her work in Her Majesty’s Prisons, Bermuda International Women’s Leadership Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Bermuda´s 100 Women of Vision the Chautauqua Award. She has dedicated her life to educating as many Bermudians as possible particularly young black males and young men behind the prison walls. She has written books on her speeches both locally and internationally and her political journey: Speeches for the Soul, Political Beginning’s for the Soul, Workshops for the Soul, The Soul of a Community Leader and 17 Trailblazers who walked with a Purpose. As a woman of strength and perseverance, it is through her trials and tribulations that her personal philosophy is based on the scriptural text in Romans 8:28 – “All things work together for good, to them that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose”. –This text refers to the paperback edition.

The Tree of Life is first spoken of in Genesis 2:9 and reads: “In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” God wants the best of us and wants us to make good choices. The tree of life reminds us too that we can and Bishop Smith reminded us that we can choose a fruitful and rewarding life.
